It’s a bit weird to me to be taking a business trip already for a business that has barely been open 6 months. But, alas, here I am in the Washington DC general vicinity, and tomorrow morning I’ll be heading over to the Craft Brewers Conference.
I’m quite excited to go to the conference tomorrow (and thursday and friday) to hear some other opinions on a whole range of different topics. The toughest part is actually going to be prioritizing which talks to go to. There are seminars about technical brewing topics, lab setup and operations, marketing, business, tasting, food pairing, equipment selection and a whole host of other things.
Not to mention the ‘brewexpo america’ which is going to be a huge mass of vendors showing their new equipment with all the bells and whistles. Sure, I can’t afford (nor do I need) most of it, but that’s besides the point. The point is to see what’s out there.
It’s to get new ideas, to learn new techniques, to network with others in the industry, and to have a good time.
Ongoing education is something that I always have valued, and this is a great opportunity for it. I’ll be the first to admit my lack of formal brewing education, but I intend on making up for that in short order, with this conference (and future ones like it) being high on the priority list to helping me towards that goal.
If you’re interested in what’s going on, you can certainly check out the schedule and list of vendors online, but that probably doesn’t do you much good if you’re not going to be there (although I am taking suggestions if there’s anyone in particular I need to check out while I’m there for the next few days). Other than that, I would recommend keeping an eye on the instagram feed for #cbc2013, there have been some really nice pictures up already.
For those of you who will be around this week, definitely stop by the taproom and say hello to Becky on thursday and friday. She’ll be there holding down the fort, and we’ve got plenty of the new belgian globe glasses for sale along with a test batch of Dark Belgian Witbier at the taproom this thursday.
I hope you all have a good week, and I’ll certainly report back on the conference (including how the symposium beer “Beggars and Thieves” is!)
